By Kathryn Eddy, student and Excel Apprentice - February 2002 The first time that I did Pilates I remember that I was so intrigued with the equipment and the philosophy behind it. The other thing that I remember so vividly is that I was very, very weak. I had been diagnosed with something called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and was even having trouble walking to my classes.
After my first lesson, I was determined to improve. The more I did Pilates, the better I felt and the stronger I saw myself getting. I remember being so frustrated when I could not do an exercise correctly, and especially when my muscles would shake uncontrollably towards the end of my workouts. I pushed on and day-by-day, week-by-week I saw the results - not only in my strength, but also in the mirror. I was noticeably more toned and my posture had improved. I could fit into things that I hadn't worn since high school!
Since being an Apprentice at Excel, I have grown in my own work and find joy in teaching it to others. I am completely recovered and continue to do my Pilates everyday and it has definitely changed my life. I can live a regular day with zest and pleasure -- without taking naps and without being sedentary. Thank you Joe!!
